| Corn Questionnaire #1 |
| For
years, producers of agricultural products sold the products when they
needed money if the product was storable such as grains, fodder, and
hay. Non-storable products were marketed when mature or ready for
market. This would include livestock and milk. The only time
taken to market was checking to see who had the best bid.
Today producers have the ability to market products months before the product will be ready. As an example, December 2003 corn is currently being traded on the Chicago Board of Trade. The producer has over 2 1/2 years to market the 2003 crop. Yet, most producers have some of last year's crop remaining to be priced. In May of 2000, the market price for December 2000 corn futures reached $2.73 on the Chicago Board of Trade. Producers who took the time to market, experienced a nice reward at harvest. Marketing has become the key to success in agriculture. How much time should you take? Click here to continue with Question #2.
