Soybean Questionnaire #2
The first time I asked this question at a seminar, I was asked how you figured they percentage if you went from red (a loss) to black (a profit). The gentleman made my point.  Marketing allows you to have control over your bottom line, because you are taking control of your income side of the equation beside the expense side.

From my experience in the grain elevator business, the most often heard complaint was "Everyone else gets to put a price on their production, why can't I price my production?"  The producer of grains has been able to use the Chicago Board of Trade as a pricing instrument for over 150 years. Producers have not taken the time to understand and use the tool.  The market gives the opportunity to set your price (if traded) each crop year.

How much could you affect your bottom line?  Marketing gives you the opportunity to hit singles and doubles, but very seldom home runs.  Marketing also takes away the strike outs!
